Wouldn’t it be great if someone came up with a software system to accurately show you where your pipe is at risk?

Arecon Data did just that, and more!

Author: Jeff Arms, CEO, Arecon Data

During the Global Petroleum Show (GPS), Arecon Data will be introducing Drill Pipe Integrity Management System™ (DPIMS™), software that will help your company reduce Rig down time and down-hole pipe failure.

The management system was designed to connect the gaps between drilling, inspection, repair, and utilization. It is simple to use, yet powerful, while saving drilling companies up to 50% on pipe-related Rig down time and reduce down-hole failure. With the development of this revolutionary software, companies can see immediate results and easily outpace their competition.

It can be used by Drill Pipe inspectors, Rig Hands, Operation Managers, Threading, and Repair Facilities. Asset management firms are now able to offer a clear alternative to the status quo for their customers. Drill Pipe management has grown from just keeping track of where pipe is located to saving you millions in inventory loss and down time per year.

Inspection Service companies can greatly benefit from DPIMS™ by providing screens that guide the inspector through the inspection process. Field inspectors can enter data directly into the system using rugged handheld devices and greatly reduce the paper trail and costly mistakes due to redundant data entry. The software is able to prompt the user and tell them if a measurement is within acceptable ranges ensuring that they do not pass a bad joint through inspection by mistake.

It is especially effective at grading the performance of manufactures and inspection vendors.  DPIMS™ can even tell you which steel manufacturers’ pipe lasts the longest or tell you which is low performing.  This feature alone can save $millions for small companies.

How can you avoid a down-hole Drill Pipe failure?

Author: Jeff Arms

CEO, Arecon Data

Proper management of tubular assets is vital in reducing down-hole failure and it is the factor that is most often ignored. Every drilling operator should consider implementing a Drill Pipe Integrity Management Program within their company. The cost of the program is easily offset by the cost savings payoff of reducing down time.

Down-hole pipe failure has doubled in recent years with the rise of horizontal drilling. As drill pipe and casing is stressed further, it is becoming more important to keep a clear accounting of the condition of your pipe. Drill Pipe failures cost on average 1.6 million dollars per year per failure worldwide in terms of rig time, lost assets, and Health Safety and Environment (HSE).

Drill Pipe fails down-hole for many reasons. Some of the causes are clear, such as Down-hole overheating and over torqueing. However, there are causes that are not as apparent, such as metallurgy due to poor manufacturing practices, incorrect inspection results, and poor repair practices.

Many great engineering firms spend a lot of time analyzing and performing studies after an incident occurs to find out why a particular drill string failed. So how do you take advantage of this information?

For over 15 years, the experts at Arecon Data have been developing the revolutionary new software called Tally Wizard.  Today, we have launched the newest product, Drill Pipe Integrity Management System(DPIMS).

DPIMS is able to consume data from multiple sources in order to provide your company with drill pipe reporting analysis at the click of a mouse. With DPIMS, it is easy to implement a Drill Pipe Integrity Management program within your company or provide this service for your customers. Tally Wizard – DPIMS is the only system available that can tell you the life expectancy of a drill string.

I am often asked, “How quickly does this Integrity Management begin to pay off?” I always respond that DPIMS has inspection features that immediately begin directing inspectors through inspection. By informing the inspector what measurements are within acceptable range, the system starts giving immediate payoff by not allowing a bad joint of pipe to pass through inspection and reducing errors during the inspection process by as much as 30%.

Over time, the system becomes more accurate as historical information is gathered about your drill string usage. The system can help you predict when a joint of pipe has reached its end of life.

With DPIMS, you can have detailed historical analysis about the entire life history of a string or individual joint of pipe at your fingertips. The software can also develop reports on manufactures that have consistently poor quality, inspector and repair providers with higher failure rates, and much more.

Using unique algorithms, our system is able to analyze well log data, string and joint age, historical usage, inspection, repair history, manufacture and vendor statistics to give you real time information on a drill pipe string and individual joints of pipe before they are sent to the field for use.

DPIMS is the only system available that is capable of tracking the history of a joint of pipe and predicting when it needs retiring based on historical trend analysis. Whether implemented in the corporate office, pipe inspection facility, or rig site, it can easily provide you with the information needed to prevent failure before it happens.

Reduce Rig down time and down-hole failure costs with a Drill Pipe Integrity Management program

Reduce Rig down time and down-hole failure costs with a Drill Pipe Integrity Management program

Author: Jeff Arms

CEO, Arecon Data

Drilling companies are losing billions of dollars, averaging $1.6 million per well drilled annually. This revenue loss and Rig delays are the result of down-hole pipe failure.

With Horizontal Drilling comes the increase of severe down-hole heating and heating induced failure of drill string components. Older drill strings are more prone to this issue due to improper maintenance, inspections, and repairs.

Many drilling companies struggle to keep up with the location of the drill string and they are passing the responsibility over to Rig hands that have more important demands. Arecon Data’s Drill Pipe Integrity Management System (DPIMS) makes location tracking easy, getting rid of the piles of legal pads and spreadsheets that are lost on laptops in the field. Since most companies struggle to keep up drill pipe location, the concept of detailed historical tracking and analysis is beyond their grasp. However Arecon Data has proven the value of detailed pipe location and historical tracking.

DPIMS is a comprehensive location and historical tracking system. Utilizing data from many sources to track the age, prior usage, inspection history and repair history of the pipe. It uses unique algorithms to analyze the history of each joint of pipe to ensure that the pipe is used while safe and retired prior to failure.

DPIMS detects when the inspector misses entered a measurement or when the inspection value is out of range. The system is expected to save companies no less that 40% of their annual costs for down time. The results of the program will vary depending upon the data sources that are analyzed. It can easily be implemented in the corporate office, the pipe yard or rig floor.

Drilling companies spend tens of $millions on a good accounting system. However, they spend little on software to manage their most costly and prone to failure core asset. DPIMS goes far beyond valuing the asset on the books. It ensures the asset is maintained properly and makes the company money rather than costing.

If drilling companies were in the retail business, they would stop selling Drill Pipe simply because the product costs more to sell than to make.

Gov. Fallin says Oklahoma Based Company, Arecon Data, is Leading the Way with High Tech Software in the Oil and Gas Industry

Arecon Data is helping to build the Oklahoma high tech business sector by creating cutting-edge software, called Tally Wizard, designed to save the Oil & Gas industry billions of dollars.

Calgary, Alberta- Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin, met with Arecon Data while at the 2012 Global Petroleum Show in Calgary, Canada, to discuss the impact their innovative software is having on both the Oil & Gas Industry and on the Oklahoma Economy.

“Oklahoma continues to gain global recognition for leading the charge on cutting-edge technology in the Oil & Gas industry.  The Tally Wizard software that Arecon Data has developed is a great example of the groundbreaking work taking place in our state,” said Governor Fallin.

Tally Wizard, a cloud-based software, helps oil and gas companies track their pipeline assets and solve problems for the oil and steel industries that is estimated to save billions of dollars by reducing down-hole pipe failures as well as help manage the amount of pipe inventory that they have to keep in stock.

Arecon Data is also making a big impact on the economy in Oklahoma for they have experienced 50% annual growth and will be adding numerous high paying jobs over the next few years as they grow internationally.

“Oklahoma’s economy benefits immensely from the investment and jobs created by high-tech companies like Arecon Data,” said Governor Fallin.

Arecon Data is a privately owned, United State-based, international software company with over two decades of oil and gas industry experience.  With headquarters in Oklahoma City, Arecon Data has been recognized by The Journal Record as a recipient of a 2012 Journal Record Innovator of the Year Award.  For more information on Arecon Data or Tally Wizard visit them at www.arecondata.com,www.tallywizard.com, or call Maria Arms at (887) 912-8491.

Arecon Data Achieving Global Success

When large oil companies purchase miles of steel piping, their vendors have to be responsive and reliable in order to stay on their call list. A string of steel pipe can cost upwards of $30,000, making it a very expensive commodity of which to keep accurate accounts. Supply chain management of this industry has been a serious problem all over the world. In order for vendors to make the sales and function effectively, inventory management is the key.

Oklahoma-City based company Arecon Data has developed an asset management software program to address this large and reoccurring issue. To address this problem, a software program called Tally Wizard has been developed by Arecon Data President and Founder Jeff Arms that targets small and medium-sized pipe suppliers and can build efficiency in supply management.

Arecon Data, Jeff and Maria Arms

The capabilities of the program supersede its target market into not only large enterprise pipe suppliers, but other industries, as well. With a user friendly interface based on a Microsoft platform, Tally Wizard is designed to be easy to use at the forefront, while making technical strides behind the scenes.

Additionally, Arecon Data has taken their software to the “Cloud,” making it possible for them to provide their services to companies all over the globe. They are working with clients in throughout the U.S. and in Canada, Great Britain, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Scotland.

The Cloud service Arecon Data provides allows companies to see their inventory across multiple locations in real-time. Additionally, the security of these databases is strong, especially given Arms’ background in database security with the Department of Defense.

Arms has over 16 years of experience in the software and IT industry and has performed IT contract work on large federal infrastructure and database deployments and has worked extensively with Microsoft and McAfee engineers. He realized there was a huge industry need to bridge the gap between client needs and vendor information while he attended the University of Oklahoma and worked for five years as a pipe yard foreman. Using his expertise and passion for both industries, Arms began developing Tally Wizard and found a way to integrate the two biggest industries on the globe today: energy and software.

“Companies need the most accurate information as possible and they need it quickly. That’s the beauty of our product – it tracks and manages inventory while also eliminating guesswork,” said Arecon Data’s Senior Vice President, and spouse of Jeff Arms, Maria Arms.

Maria said the most prevalent inventory management system in the oil and gas industry today is a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and that the rate of error in using this process leaves much room for improvement and added profitability. She said many users find other software to be too complex and time can be wasted due to lack of technology to meet business needs.

Jeff said his software is the the best program that an oil and gas company can invest in to track their assets in real-time because unfortunately there hasn’t been a standard for tracking to date, and there are still some companies and pipe yards that rely on legal pads and pencils to keep track of their equipment.

Arecon Data’s software is not just for tracking pipe, but is also for use to track expensive equipment, consumables and government regulatory compliance on leases and wells.

“We can take the most technically-challenged oil field worker and train them to use our software in less than an hour,” Jeff said, “and that information is then pulled from throughout the organization up to corporate-level so they can make real-time decisions and do things they never dreamed possible with managing their assets and staying accountable for government regulatory compliance.”

Maria realized the industry’s need and knew her husband offered a technical solution that had the potential to grow into something much larger. It was this realization that led her to explore the possibility of Arecon Data becoming a client of Moore Norman Technology Center’s Business Development Center and working with BDC Coordinator Greg Kieson.

“His (Kieson’s) connections and veteran status in the business community has been an added bonus to the whole picture. From the time I inquired with him, to the time we moved into the BDC, it all happened within one month. Greg knows exactly how to help small businesses move in the direction they need to in order to grow quickly,” Maria said.

“MNTC has the resources to help us achieve our goals. We are able to utilize such things as financial growth strategies and an international copyright lawyer,” Maria said.

A former business owner herself, Maria notes the difficulties that come with owning and operating a small business, but said the structure involved in becoming a BDC client give her and her husband the confidence to move ahead with their dreams for Tally Wizard and Arecon Data on a larger level.

“We have built the Arecon Data team with expectation of international growth and technology advancement. Keeping in mind the day-to-day process, we plan to meet the ever-changing demands of the oil and gas industry,” Maria said.

This spring Jeff was nominated as one of The Journal Record’s 2012 Innovator of the Year selections. Jeff said the nomination made him proud as an entrepreneur and said that gaining recognition for all of the effort his team has put into developing and growing the company felt great.
